Introduction

Thank you so much for choosing this pattern! I hope you have fun crocheting your vulva plushie and enjoy making it your own. These plushies are meant to celebrate the beauty and diversity of human anatomy, so feel free to customize any details like colors, materials, sizes, and shapes, and experiment with adding pubic hair, piercings, surgical scars, menstruation, or anything you fancy!

Please do not attempt to profit from this pattern itself, but you’re welcome to sell your plushie! If you choose to post about your creation, I’d love it if you tagged me and/or mentioned me as the pattern designer.

When describing your plushie, it would mean a lot to me if you keep in mind that any gender can have a vulva and try to avoid calling the entire vulva a vagina. Thank you :)

If you have any questions or run into an issue while working on this pattern, feel free to email me at knotmoth@gmail.com or direct message me on social media.

Thank you so much to the fiber artists who volunteered to test this pattern and give feedback to make it even better! Here are some of their creations -

Base Pattern

Base plushie / Mons

  • Ch 11 (leaving a long tail for sewing), turn
  • R1 - 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 8 st, 3sc in last st, turn and begin working down back of the foundation ch (work in back "bump" only), sc in next 8 st, sc in first st (3sc total in 1st st), sl to join (22)
  • If desired, use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds

  • R2 - Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st), 2sc in next 2 st, sc in next 8 st, 2sc in next 3 st, sc in next 8 st, 2sc in last st, sl to join (28)
  • R3 - Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st), 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc in next 9 st, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc in next 9 st, 2 sc, sc, sl to join (34)

  • Optional - trace the shape on a piece of cardboard and trim so it fits inside the base of the plushie; you may need to wait and trim the shape after R4 but it’s easiest to trace the shape at after R3. If you omit the cardboard base, your plushie will be squishier and have a rounded bottom.
  • Optional - Use the tail from the start of the foundation chain and use it to sew the holes at the base of the plushie closed.

Now you will begin working the sides of the plushie.

  • R4 - Working in blo, ch 1 and sc around, (do not sl to join or ch 1 because the rest of the plushie base will be worked in continuous rounds and I find it helpful to use a stitch marker here). (34)
  • R5-R7 - Sc around (34)

  • R8 - Working in blo, dec, sc, dec, sc in next 9 st, dec, sc, dec, sc, dec, sc in next 9 st, dec, sc (28)
  • R9 - Working in blo, 2dec, sc in next 8 st, 3dec, sc in next 8 st, dec, fo leaving a long tail for sewing (22)

  • Stuff the plushie and use the tail to sew opening closed using a mattress stitch in the blo, leaving open loops for the vagina to be added later, weave in ends.
  • *If you want to add a vaginal opening, go to section below before sewing the plushie closed.

Vagina - Opening

  • Create a vagina -
    • R1 - sc 4 in mr (work continuously) (4)
    • R2 - (sc, 2sc)*2 (6)
    • R3 - (sc, 2sc)*3 (9)
    • R4 - sc around (9)
    • R5 - (sc, 2sc, sc)*3 (12)
    • R6- sc around (12)
    • Fo and leave long tail for sewing

  • Before sewing plushie closed, insert vagina into opening and sew it in place with yarn tail.

Customizable Pattern

Hooray! Now that the base plushie/mons is complete, you have the freedom to choose the size and shape of your labia majora, labia minora, clitoral hood, clitoris, and vagina. This pattern includes a few variations to demonstrate different examples and show the general technique, but there is no set pattern or “correct” look for these details. Keep in mind that the labia don’t need to be even on each side and the stitches will show front or back and will look different depending on which side you join your yarn.

Ideas for customizations - different yarn textures and weights, inserts with rattles or a sound module to play a recording, and using puff stitches for a bumpy look.

Labia majora -
Some testers found it easier to start with the labia minora in the next step and then come back to complete the labia majora.

  • Join yarn with a sl st to the outer round of open loops remaining from working the blo on R8
  • Work 1-3 sc, hdc, dc, or tr stitches in each open loop from R8 (see examples)
    • sc stitches will be shortest in length and tr stitches will be longest
    • Working more stitches into each open loop will result in a fuller labia majora with more ruffles
  • You can work stitches all the way around or just on the sides (see examples)
  • Fo and weave in ends

Example #1 -
2sc, 3sc, 2sc, 2hdc, 2hdc, 3hdc, 2dc, 3dc, 3tr, 2dc, 2dc, 3hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc, 3sc, 2sc, 2sc
(should be at base of vulva, start working up other side)
2sc, 2sc, 3sc, 2hdc, 2hdc, 3hdc, 2dc, 2dc, 3tr, 3dc, 2dc, 3hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc, 2sc, 3sc, 2sc

Example #2 -
Sk 4 st, sc, 2sc, 2sc, 2hdc, hdc, 2dc, 2tr, dc, 2dc, hdc, sc, sc, sl, fo
(should be at base of vulva, start working up other side)
Sk 4 st, sc, sc, hdc, 2dc, dc, 2tr, 2dc, hdc, 2hdc, 2sc, 2sc, sc

Labia minora-

  • Join yarn with a sl st to the middle round of open loops remaining from working the blo on R9
  • Work 1-3 sc, hdc, dc, or tr stitches in each open loop from R9 (see examples)
    • sc stitches will be shortest in length and tr stitches will be longest
    • Working more stitches into each open loop will result in a fuller labia minora with more ruffles
  • Fo and weave in ends

Example #1 -
Sc, 2sc, 2hdc, dc, 2dc, 2tr, 2tr, 2dc, dc, hdc, sc, sc, sc, sc
(should be at base of vulva, start working up other side)
Sc, sc, hdc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2tr, tr, 2dc, hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc, sc, sc, sc

Example #2 -
Sc, sc, 2sc, hdc, 2hdc, hdc, dc, tr, 2dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc, sc
(should be at base of vulva, start working up other side)

Clitoral hood

Remember this is a guideline, feel free to change the size/shape.

Smaller example

  • Join yarn with a sl st to labia minora near the top of your plushie where you want the clitoris
  • R1 - Sc in 8 st around top of labia minora, turn and ch 1 (8)
  • R2 - sk 1st st, (dec)*3, sl in last st, turn and ch 1 (4)
  • R3 - (dec)*2 (2)
  • Fo and weave in ends

Larger example

  • Join yarn with a sl st to labia minora near the top of your plushie where you want the clitoris
  • R1 - Sc in 10 st around top of labia minora, turn and ch 1 (10)
  • R2 - sk 1st st, (dec, sc)*2,, dec, sl in last st, turn and ch 1 (7)
  • R3 - sk 1st st, (dec)*3 (3)
  • Fo and weave in ends

Clitoris

You can crochet a clitoris or simply use a large bead or pearl and sew it under the clitoral hood. Remember this is a guideline, feel free to change the size/shape.

Smaller example

  • R1 - sc 3 in mr (3)
  • R2 - (2sc)*3 (6)
  • R3 - dec around (3)
  • Fo and leave long tail for sewing

Larger example

  • R1 - sc 4 in mr (4)
  • R2 - (2sc)*4 (8)
  • R3 - sc around (8)
  • R4 - dec around (4)
  • Fo and leave long tail for sewing

Vagina - no opening

Use this pattern for the vagina if you didn't make an opening vagina in the earlier step. Remember this is a guideline, feel free to change the size/shape and experiment with different yarn weights and hook sizes to change the texture (e.g. silky thread looks “wet”).

  • Join yarn with a sl st to the innermost round of open loops remaining from stitching in the blo when you closed the plushie after working R9 about midway down the side of the plushie
  • Work 1-3 sc stitches in each open loop around the base and back up the other side, joining to the beginning stitch about midway up the other side of the plushie
  • Fo and weave in ends

Embellishments

Your vulva plushie is complete at this point, but I love adding beads and other details to embellish my designs. I’ve added some examples to help inspire you!

Hair - use scrubby yarn doubled with your regular yarn or embroider.

Wetness - sew clear or sparkly beads to the labia, vagina, or anywhere else on your vulva. Tie a string of white or clear beads inside the vagina for a fun “pull-out” surprise.

Menstruation - sew red beads to the labia, vaginal opening, or anywhere else on your vulva. Tie a string of red beads inside the vagina or fold up a white pipe cleaner and color it with red marker for a fun “pull-out” surprise.

Scars - use yarn to embroider stitches in desired location for scarring.

Piercings - use metal hoops or use real piercings.

Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed crocheting your vulva design and that brought a smile to your face!
